CYPRUS AMATEUER MEN’S OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2013

15/04/2013

Nicholas Beck and Grigor Khachaturov (both members of the Royal Malta Golf Club) are on their way to Paphos-Cyprus to participate in the Cyprus Amateur Men’s Open Championship to be held in Paphos.

The Championship will be decided by Stroke Play in a 3-day event over 54 holes to be played at Aphrodite Hills Golf Course for Rounds 1 and 3 and at Elea Estate Golf Course for Round 2. The player with the lowest gross score over 54 holes will be declared the Cyprus Amateur Men’s Open Champion for 2013.

The Championship will be played between the 19th and 21st April with a practice round available on Thursday 18th April. Beck and Khachaturov are due to start their practice rounds on the Aphrodite Hills golf course in the morning and have another practice round at the Elea course in the afternoon.

Aphrodite Hills measures just less than 6300 metres off the black tees and is a par 71 with a course rating of 73.2 and a slope rating of 131. It is perhaps most famous for its par 3 seventh hole with a tee shot that must fly over a 180 metre wide gorge to land safely on the green. The Elea Estate course is also a par 71 designed by Nick Faldo. It measures 6194 metres and tends to be wind swept away from the Clubhouse with many a bunker facing the errant shot.

Whilst this will be Khachaturov’s first international experience, Beck has represented Malta on international level on a number of occasions with his last being in 2009 in Slovakia after narrowly missing out on selection for the Mediterranean Games and World Amateur Championship which were held in Pescara and Turkey respectively in the last couple of years.

Beck's participation is being made possible due to the kind support from Titleist, ESE Ltd. Malta (European School of English), Tommy Hilfiger (Malta) and fellow friends and golfers.
