DANIEL HOLLAND OFF TO THE R&A JUNIOR OPEN
05/07/2010
This year, the biennial R&A Junior Open Championship will accompany The Open Championship back to the Fife, on Scotland’s east coast. And as the world’s best prepare to mount an assault on the Claret Jug in St Andrews, the juniors will get underway on the shores of the Firth of Forth at Lundin Golf Club, just 12 miles away.
The Malta Golf Association has endorsed Daniel Holland’s participation in this event. Daniel has had a very successful season at the Royal Malta Golf Club winning the Scratch Challenge, the singles match play knockout, placed first in two monthly medals, first in the order of merit, fourth in the Club’s Championship plus a string of other top finishes.
All nations affiliated to The R&A are invited to enter their leading boy and girl golfers under the age of 16 for this biennial event which is played over three rounds of stroke-play. There is both a scratch and handicap element to the event. Competitors in the Gold (under 3) category play 54 holes. Those in the Silver (4-9) and Bronze (10-15) categories play 36 holes.
For many, the R&A Junior Open will be a first taste of international golf and of representing one’s country. But for all competitors, regardless of their experience, it will be a week that will remain etched in the memory for many years to come.
With a handicap of 6.6, Daniel will be participating in the Silver category on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th July and will be able to enjoy a wonderful week of comradeship including the chance to see the world’s finest golfers battling it out on the Old Course at St Andrews.
