GOLF UNITED IN GLOBAL CONGRESS

16/11/2009

Maltese golf was represented by the President of the Malta Golf Association, William Beck, in the first Professional Golfers’ Association of Europe Golf Forum that was held last week in Murcia, Spain in partnership with the European Golf Association and the European Tour.

The forum brought delegates from associations of the playing professional golfers and coaching instructors together with their colleagues from the national governing bodies.

With “Working Together” as the theme for the two-day congress, the delegates discussed a programme of a wide-ranging spread of in-depth presentations and discussions in an endeavour to understand the different roles of the various groups involved in the sport of golf and how their synergies could be combined to minimise replication of efforts and maximise the results achieved.

“Getting Golf Ready” not just for elite and professional golfers but also for the enjoyment and challenging experience in the amateur game was the central argument of the discussions that ranged from player development, performance coaching and education frameworks. In fact, collaboration through mutual respect and trust guarantees an all-embracing perspective on a game that is currently in a phase of unprecedented progress and change above and beyond the anticipated effects of the sport’s inclusion in the Olympics.

The Malta Golf Association is an affiliate member of the European Golf Association whilst the PGA of Malta is that of the PGA’s of Europe. Henning Schulze Doering, Chairman of the PGA of Malta, was unfortunately unable to attend the congress due to personal reasons.
