EUROPEAN TEAM SHIELD CHAMPIONSHIP 2019

23/07/2019

TEAM MALTA composed of Nicholas Beck, Andy Borg, Ruud Critien and JJ Micallef will soon be travelling to the V-Club just outside Vilnius in Lithuania to participate in the fifth edition of this tournament organised by the European Golf Association.

The ETSC was first held in 2015 when Malta achieved fifth place. This was followed by two successive bronze placings in the following years and a silver last year when Malta lost to Croatia – the host country.

Twelve other emerging golf countries will be participating this year: Armenia, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia and Romania. Competition is expected to be tough.

After a practice round on Tuesday, the tournament starts off on Wednesday with an individual stroke play qualifier. The aggregate of three best gross scores out of four will determine the team’s position for the next rounds with the best eight teams making it to the knockout stages in match play format. The match play rounds will consist of one foursomes match and two individual matches. The team winning two of these three matches will proceed to the next round until the overall winner is determined. All golf will be played off scratch.

The V-Club is arguably the finest Championship Golf course in the Baltic States. The par 72, 6312 metres course is situated in a landscape of rolling hills, natural lakes and sand-based fairways. https://www.vilniusgrandresort.com/en/english-golf/apie/.

Malta’s participation in this tournament is through the kind sponsorship of SportMalta, the Maltese Olympic Committee as well as Glenmuir (playing kit) and Bortex Fine Tailoring (official uniform).

Laurens Schulze Doering having already played in the Serbian Junior Open where he placed 3rd in his age category, will be playing in the Latvian Junior Open, the Belgian Boys and the German Boys and Leya Cristina will be playing in various tournaments suited to her age. Please join us to wish them an enjoyable experience.
