MGA GENERATION CUP 2017

11/07/2017

Martin Azzopardi playing with his son Sam won the seventh edition of the MGA Generation Cup sponsored by NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto which was played at the Royal Malta Golf Club on Sunday, 9th July 2017.

The hot weather prevalent ahead and during the competition resulted in a decrease in the number of entries. In the end, a total of 36 players played in the main tournament whilst only 3 players participated in the concurrent 9-hole competition organised for the very young players. The main competition was played in a Greensomes Medal stroke play format with a minimum of six tee shots per player. The smaller competition had a similar format but was played as a Stableford.

Anne Thompson adopted young Thomas Christmas and Domenic Cola Evans. The trio played their nine holes in 17 points and were rewarded for their braving the conditions.

Seven out of the eighteen pairs in the main competition managed to beat the weather and returned scores better than net par for the course. Third place was secured by Laine Tutane playing with her daughter Cherlyn who off a team handicap of 28 returned a net score of 65. Debbie Holland playing with her son Danny with a team handicap of 14 managed a second place with a net score of 64. Martin and Sam Azzopardi faired one stroke better for a net 63 playing off a team handicap of 32.

The prizes for the tournament were presented to the winners by Federico Milanetti (Human Resources Manager at NESTLÉ Malta) in the presence of Gabriella Galea Gusman and Alanna Baldacchino (Product Managers at NESTLÉ Malta), Vincent Portelli (RMGC Club Captain) and William Beck (MGA President).
