21/02/2014
The fourth edition of the MGA Generation Cup sponsored by NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto was played at the Royal Malta Golf Club on Sunday, 16th February 2014. A total of 40 players played in the main tournament whilst another 16 players participated in the concurrent 9-hole competition organised for the very young players. Played as a two player scramble medal stroke play, this year’s tournament again utilised the Modified Scheid system to determine the winning teams.
Laine Tutane playing with her daughter Cherlyn won the 9-holes competition with a Scheid Score of 34 points ahead of Simon and Edward Micallef Stafrace. The other teams were composed of Ray Mountford who adopted Alex Jacobsen, Thomas Jacobsen and his daughter Anna, Christina Van Canal with her daughter Filippa, Martin Azzopardi and his son Samuel, Miho Karasawa who adopted Christian Fantinelli plus Ricky Reeves and his son Samuel.
In the main tournament the pairs were composed of 2 mother and son; 10 father and son; 3 mother and daughter; 1 father and daughter; 2 grandfather and grandson; and 2 adopted pairs. Four teams strived for second place with a Scheid score of 66 but on handicap calculation Andy Holland and his son Danny outdid Frances Bergedahl and her son Chris.
The undisputed winners of the tournament were Yvonne Van Beek and her son Quint who returned a gross 64 equivalent to a Scheid score of 63. The score card included seven birdies which ascertained that the Van Beeks kept hold of the trophy that they had won last year.
The prizes for the tournament were presented to the winners by Joanna Micallef-Farrugia (Marketing Brand Manager at NESTLÉ Malta) in the presence of Alanna Baldacchino (Junior Product Manager at NESTLÉ Malta), Michelle Allsopp (RMGC Lady Captain), Ron Feenan (RMGC Vice-Captain) and William Beck (MGA President).
