APHRODITE RIPS OUT GOLFING HEARTS AT CYPRUS OPEN

23/04/2013

Nicholas Beck and Grigor Khachaturov are back in Malta after a heart wrenching golf experience at the Cyprus Men’s Open Amateur Golf Tournament that was held over three days in Paphos last week.

The tournament was characterised by heavy scoring. In fact, out of the registered 65 players only 52 managed to complete the full 54 holes and averaged between them rounds of 86 shots. The best score over the three days was a 70 submitted on the first day at Aphrodite Hills by Andre Draslar from the Czech Republic. This was level par for the course. Andre finished joint second with Robert Reynolds from Great Britain with an overall score of +15. The worst score was a 115 again on the first day at Aphrodite by Lou Cunnigham from Great Britain. The tournament was won by Oliver Gabor from Slovakia with a +10.

Grigor’s experience saw him submitting returns of 99, 102 and 105 for an overall score of +95 and 51st finish. Grigor’s highlight was a hole in one on the third day of the tournament at Aphrodite’s par 3 fifth-hole which measured 135 meters.

Nicholas submitted scores of 82, 77 and 92 for an overall score of +40 and tied 20th finish. His +6 score on the second day, at the more difficult Elea course, was the third best score for the day and had moved him to overall tied 9th. By the 13th, he was only +2 before fate interrupted in the form of a rules official advising the four ball to speed up and catch the three ball in front otherwise they were going to be penalised.

The players’ score cards do the rest of the talking. Please link to:
